Fast bowler Atkinson Adds to England's Injury Problems.

'Major setback' for England as Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

The English seamer increased England's injury problems when he left the ground early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his hamstring after the final ball in his spell at the MCG.

The touring camp reported Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and would spend time away from the action in order to be assessed "during the day".

The final Test in this Ashes battle at the SCG begins this coming Sunday.

The visitors have previously lost fast bowlers Mark Wood due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party as cover for Wood.

His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was dropped of the third Test, only to be brought back for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.

Atkinson improved at the MCG, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, then making 28 with the bat among just a trio of teammates who passed ten runs.

After bowling one over in Australia's second innings, he returned on Saturday morning and removed Scott Boland edging to the keeper.

Yet, towards the conclusion of that over, he sent down a change of pace to the batsman and immediately felt his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was brought back for the Boxing Day Test having missed of the third.
