Spurs Manager Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Real Fans'

Fulham Start Strong to Defeat Spurs and Increase Pressure on Frank

Spurs fans who jeered goalkeeper Vicario were told later "those individuals cannot be true Tottenham supporters" by manager Frank.

Spurs let in two scores in the opening six minutes to fall 2-1 to their opponents, registering their tenth Premier League home defeat of the year.

But the primary topic of discussion was the visitors' second score when Vicario gave away the ball well beyond his area.

He ventured out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball near the sideline.

But, rather than kicking it out of play, the Italian spun and attempted to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by King.

The forward laid the ball off to Wales midfielder Harry Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the sideline measured at 36.6 metres.

Seconds afterwards when the ball went to the keeper once more, some Tottenham supporters jeered him.

The team were jeered off at the interval, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.

A particular of those jeering sessions truly angered Frank.

"It came to my attention some of our fans reportedly booed the situation and booed after, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Danish manager commented about the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.

"[They] can't be real Tottenham fans that do that. Alright jeering following the match, no problem, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are behind one another going forward."

Tete had given Fulham a early lead prior to Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an better second period performance.

Former Premier League keeper Hart stated that the second goal was "totally preventable".

"I certainly appreciate the supporters' disappointment," Hart continued. "I know the part Vicario is performing. He is a excellent team player, he's a real leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"He was heavily involved in what ended up to be the winning score."

'It's In the Game, I'm a Big Man'

Thomas Frank Defended His Keeper Vicario Following the Match

Italy national team Vicario is in his 3rd campaign with Spurs.

He stated after the match that he had to take the criticism.

"That goal was a error of my own, I take responsibility for it," he commented.

"My aim was to clear the ball long and I simply hit the ball in a poor manner. That made an more difficult mountain to climb."

He said being booed "is part of football".

"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "We cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the stands. Supporters have the right to do what they think.

"It's on the team to stay increasingly composed, to concentrate on ourselves. We are lacking in composure and calmness to overturn results. This match is a bad loss and it's tough to accept."

'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Goal Line'

Despite Vicario's error, it was not an easy goal for Harry Wilson to score.

In fact it was the second most distant top division score of the season – following Tyler Adams' 43.3 metre strike for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which interestingly too came on the same day.

Wilson stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an open goal to aim for.

Ten moments elapsed between Vicario coming out of his box and the midfielder shooting – which was five moments after the clearance.

"I felt like the goalkeeper was out of the box for a long time," he said.

"I was surprised none of the defenders returned to the goal line. When not one of them defended the net, my interest lit up somewhat.

"[Destiny] Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a little extra opportunity. After that it was all about trying to make the correct contact and get it on target. I had a good feeling, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was heading in."

'When You're in a Bad Spell, All Appears to Work Against You'

Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unjustifiable - Frank

Although Vicario's mistake led headlines, this was an all-round poor performance for Tottenham to extend their home struggles.

This was their 10th at home loss of the year in the league, a joint team record matching nineteen ninety-four and 2003.

They still have home fixtures against Frank's former club the Bees and champions the Reds to come before the end of the season.

Only one of those wins have occurred after Frank took over from his predecessor in the summer.

"If you are behind 2-0 following six minutes, there is a mountain to climb," said Frank.

"During in a bad spell, everything seems to work against you too – the opening was a redirected attempt, the next is a mistake from the keeper.

"This result leaves us in a place where we have suffered an additional game. Each fixture has a single narrative, this game we lost in the early stages.

"We just need to continue striving. The second half was much better and hopefully something we can use to learn."

Spurs have been defeated in 4 straight at home London derbies for the initial time in the top division.

And they are recording nine point five attempts and three point two efforts on goal per match in the division – their lowest rates on file in a one season (since at least 2003-04).

Former Cottagers midfielder Murphy stated that Frank has to endure the criticism.

"He must accept the criticism," the pundit remarked. "He has taken a high profile role at a major team with enormous anticipation. There is pressure and duty that accompanies that.

"The performances at home have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
