The Contents of that Case Henry Opens in Stranger Things?
For much of season 5 of the popular Netflix show, Holly Wheeler and Max Mayfield are held captive in a realm of memories built from the memories of Henry Creel. Their mission for freedom in episode 6 leads them to experience a traumatic incident from Henry's childhood—a discovery that could contain the means to overcome him permanently.

The Discovery in the Tunnel
Upon meeting Max in the psychic realm dubbed Camazotz, it becomes clear she is sheltering in a chamber that Henry is terrified of. An accidental discovery a spyglass taken from Henry's old home lets Holly see that the danger lies not within the cave. By aligning her view through the cap, she and Max plummet into a subterranean passage.
There, they witness a Henry as a boy find an wounded, fearful individual. When Henry tries to help, the man reacts violently, hitting him in the hand. In a desperate act of self-defense, Henry kills the man with a rock. "Was this the turning point?" Holly asks tearfully. Essentially, yes, but the trauma involved more than a simple act of survival.

An Interdimensional Incident and Stolen Research
*The First Shadow* opens with the legendary naval test, which transported a vessel into a dimension later called the Abyss. The ship was attacked, and the lone returnee was the ship's commander, who came back in a vegetative state with an altered blood type.
That survivor's offspring, the future Dr. Brenner, sought to replicate this phenomenon in Nevada. One of his scientists took experimental components to sell to the Communist spies, who were desperate to launch their own interdimensional projects. The man in the mine shaft was that very thief.
The Briefcase's Contents
Considering what is revealed about his research, the briefcase would assuredly have samples of the altered blood. As shown, Henry is wounded and bleeding. Exposure likely occurred upon handling the contents, leading to the awakening of his powers—traits he would later pass on to the children Brenner would experiment on.
Alternatively, the box could have held strange particles that was destined to travel to Hawkins Laboratory, where it maintains the stability of the Upside Down. The stage play explains that young Henry was transported in the Abyss, coming back hours later as a different person. As a youth, he fights the whispers of a dark entity, similar to how the character Will was influenced by the shadow monster in the past.
The Power of Fear
His lasting fear associated with the mine shows how utterly horrifying the encounter was for him. Even as he controls the army of monsters and attempts to pull the Abyss into Hawkins, a piece of the scared boy lingers. Fear is his tool, and the series is building toward a climactic battle between Vecna and Will, who has deliberately faced his greatest terrors to gain strength.
This journey has neutralized a key tactic of Vecna. Crucially, Will now understands what the monster's own weakness, which could provide a critical advantage in the endgame conflict that awaits.
